How we refreshed The Corner Booth branding & website

The Corner Booth Store in Sydney's Annandale is an iconic Gift & Lifestyle Store. Its roots in Sydney's inner west have given it a wonderful local and village feel with a product offering to drool over. It’s loyal following embracing it’s incredible selection of stunning products and well known local and international brands. With a move to an omni channel business formula essentially translating the in-store experience to an online platform saw the Corner Booth decide to take a step up in terms of its E-commerce presence and a brand refresh.

But funnily it started with a conversation around totally rebranding.

Fast forward a few months and we landed on a brand refresh (not rebranding like we had first discussed) with a new shopify ecommerce store, custom branded in-store collateral across swing tags and postcards and (wait for it) a custom Corner Booth Candle launching in store in a matter of days for the holiday season.

Here's is how it all transpired.

In our initial meeting to discuss a re brand we identified that The Corner Booth had a very strong logo, it was currently in gold on the shop window and showing up in places and was still very much on brand, it hadn’t ‘dated’ and was in a traditional typography.

Our Mhello Studio recommendation was to keep this logo, it meant not having to spend additional money on new signage and other costs, but more a refresh to bring it the local element the forefront (adding the Annandale postcode feature to the layout) and add a little colour. This encompassing a local identity that customers could connect with and a visual upgrade to bring a core brand identity that could be further developed across print and digital.

With our brand identity refresh we finessed the typography logo, added the post code numbers and a decorative base border and created a suite of printed collateral, some still being rolled out today (imagery to come). Swing tags on luxurious 450 gsm soft cotton stock with gold eyelets, A6 Postcard, Stickers (all beautifully coordinated with an inky black and what we call ballet slippers blush) colour palette and small touches of old gold and white where needed.

With the refreshed brand identity created and in motion we worked to rebuild an already well maintained online store, upgrading to Shopify 2.0, theme upgrade and a lot of beautiful yet functional customisation and rework the visual, added digital assets and core structure to better suit the new brand identity, but also add some much needed features and brand ‘storytelling’ via visuals. An additional focus was a focus on mobile viewing and the product to cart visual process.

We continue to work through evolution upgrades today, adding shopify apps in the background to assist with SEO, loyalty and rewards etc, it’s an ongoing collaborative process as we work through the needs of the business as it grows and diversifies.

Be sure to have a look online and in store at The Corner Booth. The product offering is truly beautiful, and wonderfully curated by the owner Leah. Exceptional service too. And keep a look out for the Corner Booth 2038 Custom candle hitting shelves and the online store in a matter of days.

Our Philosophy

We want to work with our clients as they build and/or grow their brand. Sometimes this means looking at what works and building on this, developing it further, seeing it in new ways and drawing out where the growth is. Sometimes you keep the core logo (even when the client thinks they want something new). Our job at Mhello Studio is to listen to your needs and identify what is needed and in a way that works inline with realistic budgets and authentic value to the bottom line, but also to give the client what they need to feel good about their brand and how it presents to the world.
